Oppose WIC Fiscal Year 2012 Funding Cuts

Members of the full House Appropriations Committee will vote on Tuesday 31 May at 4:00 PM on the Fiscal Year 2012 Agriculture Appropriations Bill that was marked up by the House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee, Chaired by Rep. Jack Kingston, R-GA, on Tuesday 24 May.

The bill cuts WIC funding for fiscal year 2012 some $833 million below current fiscal year 2011 funding levels, funding WIC at $5.901 billion. The result of this cut will likely be that depending on food cost inflation between 300,000 and 500,000 mothers and young children will be turned away or cut from receiving WIC services.

Contact your Member of the US House of Representatives and urge them to oppose the cuts in the bill. To send an e-mail letter to your Member visit:

Remember to send your letter by Noon on Tuesday 31 May. This will allow Representatives who are not serving on the Appropriations Committee to reach out to their colleagues who are and voice their opposition to the cuts.

Thank you for taking action on behalf of the nation’s mothers and young children who depend on WIC and the services WIC provides!
