This is a professional position in the Nutrition Section of the Bureau of WIC Program Services. The employee in this position provides highly technical public health consultation to county health department directors/administrators, physicians, other public health nutritionists, nurses and others regarding the provision of services through the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) throughout the state. The position is 100% supported by the federal WIC grant and the incumbent is responsible for the following tasks:
Provides quality assurance and quality improvement evaluation of the nutrition component of statewide WIC nutrition programs. Performs on-site regulatory monitoring and technical assistance reviews of local WIC agencies in order to ensure compliance and quality in the areas of certification, nutrition risk assessment, nutrition education, breastfeeding and efficient clinic operations. Prepares reports describing in detail results of monitoring and technical assistance visits to local agencies. Assists local agencies in the development of plans of corrective action and ensures corrective action is implemented in areas determined to be deficient during on-site monitoring reviews. Conducts on-going desk top reviews and discussions with the local agencies regarding indicators and areas where on-going assistance is needed.
