Breastfeeding Peer Counselor

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by advancing the health and well-being of California’s diverse people and communities. As an employee of the Local Services Branch, the incumbent serves as part of a team that provides monitoring, training, and support for and collaboration with regional local agencies that serve the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program participants within the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program. The incumbent works under direction of the Chief, Breastfeeding Support Unit, Staff Services Manager I (SSM I). The Associate Governmental Program Analyst (AGPA) will assist the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor (BFPC), Grant Coordinator, Health Program Specialist I (HPS I), by performing more responsible, varied, and complex technical analytical staff service assignments that include but are not limited to fiscal monitoring of the BFPC Grant contract compliance, and administration issues in accordance with federal and state regulations. Activities include providing WIC Local Agency technical assistance for the grant, reviewing and approving BFPC program budgets, training, expenditure monitoring and updating BFPC program monitoring tools. The purpose of all activities is to increase breastfeeding initiation and duration rates of WIC participants statewide.
