Breastfeeding Support Unit Chief

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by advancing the health and well-being of California’s diverse people and communities. As an employee of the Local Policy and Health Programs Branch, the incumbent leads a team that provides support, training, and implements local and statewide policies which protect and serve the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program participants and local agencies.

The incumbent works under the direction of the Chief, Health and Nutrition Education Section, Health Program Manager (HPM) II. The Staff Services Manager (SSM) I plans, organizes, directs, and supervises the work of multidisciplinary professional staff of the Breastfeeding Support Unit. Responsibilities include efforts related to the statewide planning, implementation, evaluation, and monitoring of CDPH/WIC breastfeeding support services and providing coordination for the Regional Breastfeeding Liaison (RBL) Program and CDPH/WIC Breast Pump program; collaboration across multiple state programs within the Center for Family Health and CDPH on statewide breastfeeding initiatives to ensure consistent messaging across programs. This position will assume primary responsibility to guide staff and ensure that the WIC program carries out the breastfeeding promotion responsibilities in accordance with federal regulations. Provides direct supervision to four Health Program Specialist I’s. The manager actively participates as a member of the WIC Management Team.

This position is primarily a remote-centered position (telework), with an occasional need to report to the office, in Natomas/Sacramento, based on business need.
