Overview

The Department of Health is recruiting for a Public Health Analyst in the Research and Statistics Unit of its Public Health Statistics Section, Health Surveillance Division.  This position is responsible for providing support to the Woman, Infants and Children Program (WIC) for analysis and evaluation. This position will conduct analyses on specific topics on key WIC issues and present results in formats appropriate to the audience.  Analyses will use program data which includes client characteristics, redemption of food benefits and health indicators.  Other data sources will include client surveys and additional maternal and child health data systems.  The position will also collaborate with other analysts and programs within the Health Department, as well as external partners, on WIC related issues/initiatives.  This position is integral to the program in providing information for developing policies and programs and evaluating their effectiveness.

Class Definition

Research, statistical and program evaluation work at a professional level for the Department of Health involving complex epidemiological and bio-statistical analyses. Duties include selection of advanced statistical and epidemiological methodology and database development. Work is performed under the general supervision of an administrative superior or senior level analyst. All employees of the Agency of Human Services perform their respective functions adhering to four key practices: customer service, holistic service, strengths-based relationships and results orientation.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed primarily in a standard office setting. Meetings with data users and providers may require some travel, for which private means of transportation must be available. Some work outside of normal office hours may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree or higher in biostatistics, epidemiology, public health or a social sciences discipline, including 6 credits in statistics at the graduate level AND one (1) year or more of professional level work in health-related research, statistics or program evaluation where the activities include gathering, analyzing and interpreting statistical data.

OR

Bachelor's degree in statistics, a health-related or social sciences discipline, including 12 college credits in statistics, research or computer sciences, and 6 of these credits must be in statistics AND four (4) years or more of professional level work in health-related research, statistics or program evaluation where the activities include gathering, analyzing and interpreting statistical data.
