This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by advancing the health and well-being of California’s diverse people and communities. As an employee of the Local Policy and Health Programs Branch, the incumbent is part of a team that provides support, training, and implements local and statewide policies which protect and serve the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program participants and local agencies.
The incumbent works under the direction of the Chief, Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Unit, Staff Services Manager I (SSM I). The Health Program Specialist I (HPS I) leads the efforts related to the development, implementation, and program monitoring of the statewide USDA funded Breastfeeding Peer Counseling (BFPC) Program. Activities include collaboration with WIC Division staff, local WIC agency staff, and WIC programs in other states. The purpose of all activities is to increase breastfeeding initiation and duration rates of WIC participants statewide. Travels statewide up to 10% of the time.
