Breastfeeding Consultant

Pinal County Public health (San Tan Valley, AZ)

Under minimal supervision, provide breastfeeding education and support to WIC clients and families.
TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Interview WIC clients to evaluate their breastfeeding needs.
Work with clients to develop personal goals and a breastfeeding plan.
Provide breastfeeding consultations by phone and in person.
Work with the Breastfeeding Coordinator to teach breastfeeding classes.
Develop and present training content and materials for WIC Staff.
Provide outreach to community partners.
Attend mandatory meetings and other continuing education opportunities.
Actively participate in ADHS, PCPHSD and other community committees and groups related to the delivery and improvement of public health.
Attend training sessions at ADHS and additional continuing education meetings and present information when requested.
Assist clients with access to other health care professionals, regional agencies, and community services programs
Document each client contact in the TGIF or SOAP Note format and document contacts by month.
Maintain case file records and collect, compile, and report data on program participation.
Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information. Follow all HIPAA guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Perform other related duties as required.

POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES:
None.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK
Associate’s degree
Two (2) years of experience in breastfeeding support.  
Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
Arizona residents must have a valid Arizona Driver’s License upon hire; newly established Arizona Residents must have one within 30 days of hire.
IBCLC Lactation Consultant.
At least one (1) year of WIC experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of breastfeeding, current adult learning and training methods applicable to breastfeeding education.  
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.

 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is light and requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.  The work also requires the ability to crouch, finger, feel, grasp, handle, reach, perform repetitive motion, kneel, lift, hear, speak, walk, operate motor vehicles, and demonstrate mental and visual acuity.

Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires the ability to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
 
The hiring salary for this position is dependent upon experience, qualifications and position funding; starting salaries above the first quartile require additional approval.
