This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by advancing the health and well-being of California’s diverse people and communities. As an employee of the Local Policy and Health Programs Branch, the incumbent leads a team that provides support, training, and implements local and statewide policies which protect and serve the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program participants and local agencies.
The incumbent works under the general direction of the Chief, Local Policy and Health Programs Branch, Staff Services Manager III (SSM III). The Staff Services Manager II (SSM II) plans, organizes, directs, and supervises the work of a multidisciplinary team of professional, technical, and support staff in the Breastfeeding Programs Section. Provides leadership on the implementation, evaluation, and management of the CDPH/WIC breastfeeding specialty programs including the Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program, the Regional Breastfeeding Liaison Program, and the Breast Pump Loan Program. The Section includes two units, the Breastfeeding Support Unit, and the Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Unit. Between the two units there are two SSM I’s, and seven professional staff. The manager actively participates as a member of the WIC Division Management Team.
