The Wilson County Health Department has an immediate opening for a Nutritionist II in the Women, Infants And Children (WIC) Program. WIC is designed for pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants, and children under five years of age who qualify. This program provides supplemental foods, breastfeeding education, nutritional counseling, and healthcare referrals. 

Compensation: The starting salary for a fully qualified Nutritionist II begins at $40,224+ a COMPETIVE BENEFITS PACKAGE.
 
Hours: 8:00 am- 5:00 pm, Monday- Friday. Extended hours and weekend work may be requested or required for special events and/or programmatic needs.

Description of Work

The Nutritionist II will report to the WIC Nutritionist III Director. The Nutritionist II will provide nutritional services for clients in WIC and Women and Children's Health Programs at the Wilson County Health Department in accordance with state and federal regulations and guidelines. 

Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Organize the delivery of nutritional services to clients varied in age and medical status, which requires thorough knowledge of life cycle nutrition.
  • Completes nutrition care plans in there entirety and documents client oriented goals for all participants. 
  • Collects and evaluates anthropometric, biochemical, socio economic, clinical and dietary information for WIC Certifications.
  • Involved in nutrition training and consultation to paraprofessional and professional staff, as well as community agencies and groups.
  • Refers clients to appropriate community resources; Healthcare and related economic services and maintain open communication with these agencies. 
  • Conducts outreach activities through agency media, local health care providers and news media. 
  • Attends appropriate continuing education courses or training sessions to remain current in the field of nutrition and all required WIC Training.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of normal and therapeutic nutrition.
  • Ability to analyze eco/social, anthropometric, clinical, biochemical and dietary data to determine WIC eligibility.
  • Knowledge of nutritional adequacy of individual diets.
  • Ability to perform effective, client-centered Nutrition Counseling.
  • Respectfully communicate relevant nutrition principles to multi-cultural, multi-lingual clients.
  • Knowledge of North Carolina WIC Program Policy/Guidelines applicable to the Nutrition Professional (CPA)- Competent Professional Authority.
  • Skill in organization and management of time and resources.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

 

Minimum Education and Experience

Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetics Registration; or Master’s degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Nutrition; or graduation from a Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education- approved Didactic Program in Dietetics and two years nutrition experience; or Dietetic Technician, Registered with the Commission on Dietetics Registration with a Bachelor’s degree in any subject area from an accredited four-year college or university and two years nutrition experience; or a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or Community Nutrition from an accredited four-year college or university and two years nutrition experience. In order to be considered for this position, Candidates should provide documentation of registration status from the Commission on Dietetic Registration, provide university or college transcripts or CADE verification statement.  This documentation must be uploaded with your application even if you are a current employee, or if we have received it in the past.
