Senior Communications Associate

National WIC Association (DC, Maryland, Virginia area (within 2 hours of the NWA office) )

The National WIC Association (NWA), the nonprofit education arm and advocacy voice of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), has an immediate opening for a Senior Communications Associate.

NWA is a high-impact nonprofit, member organization that represents more than 2,000 service provider agencies that offer quality nutrition education, breastfeeding support, health care, and other social referral services to at-risk women and young children in over 10,000 WIC clinics nationwide.

The Senior Communications Associate will be part of NWA’s Communications team and will report to the Senior Communications Manager. They are responsible for supporting the development and execution of NWA’s WIC outreach and engagement resources with a mission to grow a nationally integrated multi-platform strategic marketing approach with the desired goals of raising awareness, driving enrollment, and improving perceptions of WIC as the nation’s premier public health nutrition program. The position ensures that the Recruitment and Retention Campaign reflects NWA’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) and that EDI considerations inform program management decisions. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating all strategies and activities with NWA’s Communications Team.

The Senior Communications Associate is responsible for:

  1. Develops marketing and outreach materials for NWA members, including monthly social media toolkits, marketing materials, outreach toolkits, and customized materials for NWA members.

  2. Monitors the Campaign email inbox and provides technical assistance to State and Local WIC staff regarding outreach and engagement.

  3. Designs all WIC-branded print and digital assets for the organization and assists in managing third-party contractors as needed.

  4. Works with the Communications Manager to develop marketing strategies and tools to effectively promote WIC and meet the needs of NWA members.

  5. Develop and manage social media content, including videos and graphics, while maintaining a content calendar for all WIC You Got This platforms.

  6. Tracks performance data outcomes across all NWA media and keeps up with social trends, emerging platforms, and WIC agency accounts to ensure we're reaching all eligible participants.

  7. Maintains website database, generates and distributes analytic reports, makes back-end updates, and uploads member assets as needed.

  8. Work in collaboration across the Communications Team to accomplish departmental priorities.

  9. Helps build and maintain relationships with WIC staff at State and Local Agencies.

  10. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or related fields.

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.

  • Graphic design and video editing skills are critical.

  • Demonstrated expertise in managing websites and social media.

  • Good organizational skills and detail oriented.

  • Ability to organize and manage work effectively, independently, and collectively.

  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities and customer service skills.

Salary Range

$67,000-83,000

NWA full-time staff must be based in the DC metro area, which includes Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia. We currently have a hybrid work environment with the expectation of 32 hours per month in the physical office at 1099 14th Street, NW Washington, DC.
