Tracy Sabo Dietitian and Local Agency Coordinator, Konza Prairie Community Health Center | Local Agency Section Standing Committee Co-Chair
Tracy brings 12 years of experience in WIC, serving as a Dietitian and Local Agency Coordinator at Konza Prairie Community Health Center in Junction City, KS. Her journey to WIC began after a career in veterinary medicine, where she developed a strong sense of care and attention to detail that she now dedicates to supporting families and communities. That dedication led her to get involved with NWA, first as the Kansas Local Agency Representative and later as the Mountain Plains Regional Representative. Today, as Co-Chair of the Local Agency Section Standing Committee, she is focused on strengthening board processes, fostering collaboration between NWA staff and Board members, and building bipartisan support for WIC’s future. Her unique perspective and collaborative spirit continue to guide her contributions to NWA’s mission of serving and strengthening WIC nationwide.
In the Q&A below, Tracy reflects on her experience in WIC, her goals for the Board, and why she’s passionate about the future of the program.

Tell us about your journey to the National WIC Association Board. How did you get involved, and what inspired you to engage?
I became the Kansas NWA Local Agency Representative in 2022 and, while attending the National WIC Conference, met the Mountain Plains Regional Representative. She was seeking assistance with the group, and I volunteered to help. A few months later, she stepped down, and I completed her term. Afterward, I continued serving in my own term as the Mountain Plains Representative and now serve on the board. My involvement was inspired by years of observing NWA’s work and a desire to deepen my understanding of the organization, the inner workings of WIC, and the differences in how states operate.
What’s a goal or initiative you're particularly excited about this year?
I'm especially excited about working within our regions and section standing committees to bring unique perspectives to the board. I am also excited about the modernization and innovation initiatives.
What impact do you hope the National WIC Association will have in the next five years?
Ongoing refinement of procedures and processes to clearly define the Board’s roles, responsibilities, and priorities, while also strengthening relationships between NWA staff and Board members.
Coming out of the recent NWA Board meeting, what inspired or energized you most, and how do you hope to carry that momentum into the year ahead?
To build and sustain bipartisan support for the WIC program, safeguarding its future amid financial and political uncertainty.
What’s a fun fact most people don’t know about you?
I am inspired by the leadership at all levels and the collaborative efforts of the Board and NWA staff. The atmosphere feels like sitting with old friends, even when you have just met.
