This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by advancing the health and well-being of California’s diverse people and communities. As an employee of the Local Policy and Health Programs Branch, the incumbent leads a team that provides support, training, and implements local and statewide policies which protect and serve the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program participants and local agencies.
The incumbent works under the general direction of the Chief, Health and Nutrition Education Section, Health Program Manager II (HPM II). The Staff Service Manager I (SSMI) plans, organizes, directs, and supervises the work of multidisciplinary professional staff of the Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Unit. Responsibilities include efforts related to the statewide planning, implementation, evaluation, and monitoring of the CDPH/WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counseling (BFPC) Program; collaboration across multiple state programs within the Center for Family Health and California Department of Public Health on statewide breastfeeding initiatives related to the BFPC Program, to ensure consistent messaging across programs.
