Program Materials and Support Unit Chief

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by advancing the health and well-being of California’s diverse people and communities. As an employee of the Communications, Food, and Vendor Policy Branch, the incumbent serves as part of a team that monitors, improves, and implements local and statewide policies which protect and serve Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) participants, vendors, and local agencies.

The incumbent works under the general direction of the Staff Services Manager II (SSM II), Chief of the Communications and Special Projects Section. The Staff Services Manager I (SSM I) plans, organizes, directs, and supervises the work of the Program Materials and Support Unit staff. This position assumes primary responsibility to guide staff and ensure that CDPH’s WIC program carries out appropriate aspects of the nutrition education and breastfeeding promotion and support responsibilities in accordance with state and federal regulations. The position will coordinate unit activities with other WIC division units, sections, and branches, to ensure consistent messaging to WIC participants that utilizes multiple languages and formats. The SSM I is an active member of the WIC Division management team.
