This position is located in the Department of Health (DOH), Community Health Administration (CHA), Nutrition and Physical Fitness Bureau (NPFB). The Community Health Administration of the District of Columbia Department of Health promotes healthy behaviors and healthy environments to improve health outcomes and reduce disparities in the leading causes of disease and death in the District. CHA focuses on nutrition and physical fitness promotion; cancer and chronic disease prevention and control; access to quality health care services, particularly medical and dental homes; and the health of families across the lifespan. CHA’s approach targets the behavioral, clinical, and social determinants of health through evidence-based programs, policy, and systems change.
The Nutrition and Physical Fitness Bureau (NPFB) promotes health – with a particular focus on obesity - for District residents by encouraging behavior change through nutrition and physical activity education and by facilitating policy, systems, and environmental changes that make healthy choices the easy choice. Initiatives and programs supported by the NPFB include Healthy Food Access, Nutrition and Physical Activity Promotion, Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), Breastfeeding Promotion and Support and SNAP-Ed.
The incumbent is responsible for directing, planning, designing, organizing, coordinating, developing, conducting, administering and evaluating activities related to the NPFB including assisting in budget formulation, planning multi-disciplinary programs of the projects, assuring integration of nutrition programs; exercising judgment in resolving varied problems for which guidelines arc insufficient or not directly applicable, and assuring conformance with overall policies of the agency, and coordination with other health care services in the Administration, Department and other District and private agencies.
