Research and Evaluation Manager

National WIC Association (DC, Maryland, Virginia area (within 2 hours of the NWA office) )

The National WIC Association (NWA), the nonprofit education arm and advocacy voice of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), has an immediate opening for a Research and Evaluation Manager.

The Association is a high-impact non-profit, member organization that represents more than 2,000 service provider agencies that offer quality nutrition education, breastfeeding support, health care and other social referral services to at-risk women and young children in over 10,000 WIC clinics nationwide.

The Research and Evaluation Manager is responsible for managing NWA’s activities related to WIC research and NWA program evaluation. Specifically, the position is responsible for keeping NWA members abreast of new research through the WIC Hub, a quarterly research newsletter, liaising with the researchers to build research capacity for WIC agencies, representing NWA on WIC research projects and providing internal support for NWA program evaluation and analysis. 

The position ensures that NWA’s approach to research and evaluation reflects NWA’s commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging (EDIB). The incumbent is part of the Center for Innovative Practices in WIC, as such, this position provides research expertise internally and externally. The incumbent works collaboratively with other team members of the Association. 

The Research and Evaluation Manager is responsible for:

  1. Managing the tracking, analysis, and reporting of research and data, including peer reviewed research, USDA-funded pilots, and other research projects. 

  2. Communicating WIC research related content to colleagues, NWA members, and wider WIC stakeholders through various channels, including the WIC Hub, Online Community, Monday Update, Research to Practice, etc.

  3. Liaising with the NWA Evaluation Committee, and as such, supports the development of biennial WIC Research Priorities. 

  4. Coordinating and leading joint projects with other national organizations and institutions aimed at improving the WIC participant experience.

  5. Develops resources and strategic partnerships that enhance research capacity for State and Local WIC Agencies. 

Requirements:   

  • Holds a PhD or Master’s of Science, Public Health, or Arts degree and 5+ years of experience in public policy, community programs, or communications related to public health/food access. 

  • Experience managing research projects from concept to publication. 

  • Experience leveraging research and data to inform advocacy materials.

  • Must have the ability to organize and manage work effectively, independently, and with a team. 

  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.

  • Immense commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging, including in the design, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination of research.

  • Experience in project management.

  • Excellent thought partner and capable of designing reports and performing complex data analysis through storytelling.

  • Ability to be fluid, flexible, and manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.

Salary Range
$78,000 - $95,000

NWA full-time staff must be based in the DC metro area, which includes Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia. We currently have a hybrid work environment with the expectation of 32 hours per month in the physical office at 1099 14th Street, NW Washington, DC.
